Products Description of Polyethylene, Oxidized CAS#68441-17-8

Polyethylene oxide, also known as PEO, is a linear polyether. Its physical state depends on the degree of polymerization, which can be liquid, oily matter, waxy substance or solid powder, with colours ranging from white to pale yellow.

Solid PEO powder generally features a polymerization degree n ≥ 300, a softening point of 65–67°C and a brittle point of -50°C, and exhibits thermoplastic properties. Low-molecular-weight PEO occurs as a viscous liquid and possesses water solubility.

This polymer dissolves in numerous organic solvents such as alcohols, ketones, chloroform, glycerides and aromatic hydrocarbons, yet it is insoluble in diethyl ether and n-hexane.

Product Application of Polyethylene, Oxidized CAS#68441-17-8

In the field of pharmaceuticals, PEO can modify pharmaceutical proteins to protect drug molecules and extend the half-life of drug substances. It also works as a cell fusion agent. It boosts adhesion between adjacent cell membranes and facilitates cell fusion into a single cell. Additionally, PEO can be adopted as an osmotic laxative. A commonly used grade is powder with a molecular weight of 3350.

As a water-soluble, thermoplastic nonionic linear polymer, PEO possesses flocculating, thickening, sustained-release, lubricating, dispersing, retention and water-retaining characteristics. It is non-toxic and non-irritating, and is widely applied in papermaking, coatings, inks, textile printing and dyeing and daily chemical industries.
