Products Description of o-Xylene CAS#95-47-6
o-Xylene, also named ortho-xylene or 1,2-Dimethylbenzene, has the molecular formula C₈H₁₀. It is a clear, colourless aromatic hydrocarbon liquid with a distinctive sweet aromatic odour. It is barely soluble in water but fully miscible with ethanol, ether and most other organic solvents.
This aromatic is refined from naphtha reforming streams and separated from mixed xylene isomers. It maintains stable chemical properties under normal ambient conditions and has a defined boiling point suitable for controlled oxidation reactions. It is highly flammable and volatile, and must be kept away from heat sources, sparks and open flames. It is a core petrochemical aromatic intermediate specially suited for phthalic anhydride synthesis.

Product Application of o-Xylene CAS#95-47-6
o-Xylene is the dominant industrial feedstock for catalytic oxidation to produce phthalic anhydride, which further serves to manufacture phthalate plasticizers, alkyd resins and unsaturated polyester resins widely used in PVC, coating and composite industries. It also acts as an efficient aromatic solvent for solvent-based paints, varnishes, printing inks and adhesive systems, helping dissolve resins and adjust formulation viscosity.
Besides, it is adopted for synthesizing o-toluic acid, agrochemical intermediates and dyestuff raw materials. It can be applied as a reference standard for chromatographic analysis and a component of high-octane fuel blends.
